2001 Dragontown Postcard

The year after freelancing at SFX they got bought out by Clear Channel.
I forget how I came across these glossy postcards but I picked up a few.
I don't know if the graphic dept., created this postcard which isn't the greatest design.
It could of been camera ready all I know if I created it this piece would be a lot better.
The back of the postcard talks about a Haunted Harbor Nights at Fleet Boston Pavilion
which was some type of Halloween event.

Also the concert is on November 1, 2001 I have the ticket stub which isn't listed in Dale Sherman's 10th Anniversary Edition of The Illustrated Collectors Guide To Alice Cooper. I know some people give Sherman crap but I think he did a good job trying to provide us info in this book.
He did correct some errors from the previous edition but with so much detail I am sure anyone
could make some errors. I still think it's a good book and I refer to it from time to time.

2000 Brutal Planet Flyer and Ad

While working at SFX I had the opportunity to actually work on an Alice Cooper project. As little as it may seem it was one of my favorite assignments.
I first created a flyer that will be placed in a number of locations prior to the concert.
I was given an image from Brutal Planet which I then cropped and used Alice's face in a number of blocks across and down the flyer. I downloaded a free background pattern that was rusted metal. This fit right in w/ the Brutal Planet style. I then added a few lines "... we're sentenced here until the end of days, And then my brother there's a price to pay..." from Brutal Planet. I picked a font on date and time that also goes w/ the style. This was printed on a number of different color stock.

The flyer was 5.5x8.5

I also created an newspaper ad 4.75x8 that appeared in The Boston Phoenix. Here is the actual ad before it goes to print w/out all that yellow news print stock.

I even wrote a review of the concert on SFX website. I saved it in an old QuarkXPress version and couldn't open it w/ my new software. Now InDesign is the new software for Designers but if I find it
I'll try to open it and post it here.

Ad Shells and Promos

In 2000 and 2001 I freelanced as a Graphic Artist for SFX Entertainment. They hired me during their busy season which was Spring & Summer to promote concerts in different publications. It was a small design dept., and they changed hands when I went back in 2001 to Clear Channel now they are Live Nation as they laid off a number of people and moved majority of the graphics dept to Texas and N.Y. houses most of the business. During that last year I also worked w/ a new employee graphic artist Mike D' Antonio who was in his new band Killswitch Engage. Mike was a cool guy who was a wiz w/ computers. Last assignment I was to fill in for Mike while he started his first Ozzfest Tour. While as a temp they found out I was an Alice Cooper fan so before I left they went back into the files and gave me a few old Ad Shells one from Raise Your Fist & Yell the rest from Trash which you can fill in the date and place. Also a promo pic and a small advertisement. I also created a flyer that I will post later on.

1987, Ad Shell 6.75x9.75 for Raise Your Fist & Yell.
This Ad Shell you can place in the copy.

1989, Ad Shell 11x13 for Trash. Both shells are stats paper.

1989, small Trash stat ad for Boston show at The Orpheum Theatre.

1989, 3.5x3 Trash Ad.

1989, Trash promo pic.

1982 Zipper Catches Skin Press Kit

Zipper Catches Skin was Alice's 3rd New Wave album produced by Alice Cooper and Erik Scott.
I Am The Future is the only song not written by Alice that is from the motion picture Class of '84.
Make That Money (Scrooge's Song) is an older song by Alice and Wagner worked on in the 70's. It was based on Scrooge from A Christmas Carol. I Like Girls includes vocals by the late Patty Donahue from The Waitresses who had the hit I Know What Boys Like.

I came across this promo folder that includes 2 pages on Zipper Catches Skin
and one 8x10 photo. The photo doesn't match Alice's slick back hair look as he appears on the
back of the album. It looks like the style from Lace and Whiskey Fan Club poster.

Torn pages

I found these images that I torn from metal magazines. I don't know which publications they came from but one does read SuperRock as the other I have no idea. I believe these are from 1979 Lace And Whiskey tour but if anyone knows feel free to let me know what tour.
Also funny thing is Robert Plant in different poses is on the back of both images.

I actually have 2 copies of this bottom one but one issue had Robert Plant on the back & the other has Simmons and Stanley of KISS. I'm still thinking Lace And Whiskey tour since Alice is wearing a white shirt.

1973 Promo Shot

Found this promo at a Record Show not long ago.
This 8.5x11 promo on thick cardboard was shot during The Billion Dollar Babies Tour '73.
As you see this item is a bit worn and image has some wear & tear to it along w/ some pin holes.
The back looks as if tape pulled part of the print off. This is #107, Photographer J. Ronald Pownall, Rising Signs, Ltd. North Cambridge, Massachusetts 02140.

1983(?), CREEM Issue, Retro article on "Killer" Review

This article was cut out from a Creem Magazine issue but I don't have the date.
I am guessing it's from 1983 as a Best of issue. I say '83 since the last paragraph reads
"if you're a fan of Twisted Sister's bummer, dig the Cooper version 12 years it's senior (and,
of course, way better)."

This article praises the 1971 Killer album which is one of my favorites along w/ Love It To Death.

Phasing Out Lace and Whiskey Fan Club

It wasn't long after joining I received this note that Lace And Whiskey Fan Club is phasing out.
I ordered a key fob which they replied w/ the latest news of the fan club.
Later they would reform a new fan club called Black Widow.
So during the phasing out they were kind enough to send me a few items.

3 black & white photos 8x10 as you see 2 of them I already have from being in the fan club. The 3rd photo is from Lace And Whiskey promo. It's Alice as Detective Maurice Escargot and the photo is from the inside vinyl sleeve from that album. Although the photo is a bit grainy it looks like it was blown up from a smaller image or maybe they made it look that way for some reason.

A 20x28 Flocked poster of Welcome To My Nightmare. I haven't seen this around on eBay or any other collectible site. Mine does have some wear to it. Of course the corners are filled w/ thumbtack holes and a little spot where the black felt is worn. The photo I took isn't a good one but if I find a better way to capture it I'll repost it.

1977 Lace and Whiskey paperback promo, Pt II

Continuing w/ the noir story titled The Case of The Purloined Kumquats (Lace And Whiskey) as it goes through each song title from the album. What I found interesting they use Alice Cooper's name in the story. I thought he was promoting his new character "Maurice Escargot, the toughest detective in town." Anyway it's a silly story if you can follow it. One of the characters is named Mrs Hays I wonder if that's a tip of the hat to actress Helen Hayes from Alice's appearance in The Snoop Sisters episode not long ago.

Then about 18 pages on historical gangsters in America w/ a paragraph on each mobster. This chapter is titled Historical Gangland Characters In America. I only scanned the first 3 pages on that chapter.

Last is the book calendar that starts in May 1977 and ends the following May 1978.

1977 Lace and Whiskey paperback promo, Pt I

I found this paperback promo of Lace and Whiskey at Nuggets in Kenmore Square, Boston, MA back in the 80's. This paperback contains a brief description of each album. Then a noir story of Lace and Whiskey as it goes through each title song from the album. Then about 18 pages on historical gangsters in America w/ a paragraph on each mobster. I only scanned the first 3 pages on that chapter. Last is the book calendar that starts in May 1977 and ends the following May 1978.

Below is the back, spine and cover of the book. Size is the same as a paperback novel.
The artwork is the front and back cover of the Lace and Whiskey vinyl album.

1977 Patch

From the Lace and Whiskey Fan Club in '77 I ordered this iron or sewed-on patch.
As you notice this image is from Billion Dollar Babies album in '73.
I believed I wanted the image of Alice w/ the Medusa head (snake as hair)
which was displayed on their Alice Cooper Contraband flyer but they sent me this image.
I never decided what piece of clothing to attach it too.
Good thing because I've would of grown out it.

Front and back image of product
Patch is 5x5 inches

1977 Alice Cooper Belt Buckle

This was one of my purchases from the '77 Lace and Whiskey Fan Club.
Alice Cooper logo is from his Welcome To My Nightmare album that was released in '75.
I use to wear this a lot during that time. I actually need a belt that I can switch the buckle.

1977 Fan Club News

This black & white Alice Cooper News Letter from Lace and Whiskey Fan Club
gives us Alice's activities for '78. Including his new album release From The Inside.
Talks about making the movie Sextette and Sgt Pepper Lonely Hearts Club Band.
Then going to London to guest on Jim Henson's Muppet Show.
They misspelled Henson in the news letter.

First is the front and back cover.
The cover is black & white photo from The Nightmare tv special.

Below is an inside spread that includes photos from Alice's Welcome Home Party after getting out of the hospital. Guest include musicians, movie stars and astronaut. Note Alice sporting the mustache that he appeared for the only time w/ facial hair in the Sgt Pepper Lonely Hearts Club Band movie as the evil Father Sun.
The top right corner photo from his '76 performance at the Rock Music Awards.
One of the best tv performances by Alice Cooper.

1977 Lace and Whiskey Fan Club, part I

This is the first fan club I ever joined. I wanted to join the earlier fan club that was posted in School's Out album but I knew they probably were not running at this time in '77.
I received quite a bit of material so I'll do this in sections.
So far Part I includes the following...

Front and back cover of folder

 Inside spread of folder

Letter from President of Fan Club Nicholas Narl welcoming me to Alice Cooper Fan Club.
This was a photocopied letter that seems to be sent out to all members.

Official Certificate of Insanity
Mine is actually all yellowed w/ age and tape. I found this image on line much better version.
On my certificate I wrote on the Witnessed By line Dwight Fry. I thought I was so clever. hah...

3 Photos of Alice. Alice leaning against the street light pole is from Lace And Whiskey. The mirror Alice is from Welcome To My Nightmare. Other photo is Alice relaxing on a couch.
